Chad Van Horn, Esq., Receives South Florida Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 Award

The South Florida Business Journal recently honored Chad Van Horn, Esq., with a prestigious 40 Under 40 Award, which recognized 40 local business leaders 39 years old or younger for their career achievements and community involvement.  Van Horn, 34, who owns and operates Van Horn Law Group, the largest bankruptcy firm in Broward County based on number of case filings*, was recognized at a Miami luncheon that attracted nearly 400 guests.

“It’s truly an honor to receive this award alongside these successful, community-focused leaders,” said Van Horn.  “It’s encouraging to connect with others who share my dedication to our community.   Together, through our joint efforts, I’m confident we will create and an even better Broward County.”

The award winners were chosen based on their professional, personal and community achievements.  Professionally, Van Horn’s bankruptcy law practice is dedicated to protecting the rights of clients overwhelmed by debt by combining legal expertise with compassionate client service.  Personally, Van Horn has served as a Big Brothers Big Sisters mentor since 2012.  Community activities include Legal Aid Service of Broward County, Mission United, and the OJ McDuffie Catch 81 Foundation.  All of his efforts intentionally champion the underdog.

Van Horn, who graduated from Pittsburgh’s Robert Morris University with a B.S. in Business Management, discovered his niche in bankruptcy while working as a clerk for a bankruptcy law firm during the day and pursuing a law degree at night.  He received his Juris Doctorate from Nova Southeastern University’s Shepard Broad Law Center in 2009 and founded his bankruptcy firm shortly thereafter.  He licensed to practice by:  the State of Florida; Southern, Middle and Northern District of Florida; Northern District of New York; Western District of Pennsylvania; and the Supreme Court of the United States.  He is a member and sponsor for the Bankruptcy Bar Association for the Southern District of Florida and certified in business bankruptcy by the American Board of Certification.

For his professional and community efforts, Van Horn was receive many accolades, including: Legal Aid Service of Broward County Pro Bono Attorney of the Year in 2017; Legal Aid Service of Broward County Superstar Pro Bono Attorney in 2015 and 2017 for work on behalf of veterans; and Florida Big Brother of the Year in 2017out of 15,000 Big Brothers Big Sisters’ mentors across the state.  He also is a member of Leadership Broward Class XXXVII, the Broward Alliance and Tower Forum.  Van Horn is a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and now resides in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
