Broward County Bar Association Specific Activities
Stephen has shown both leadership and passion in becoming involved with the local community after graduation from law school and during the last 10+ years. These attributes have been further displayed in the years of service and commitment and assistance in making the Broward County Bar Association the best voluntary bar association in the State of Florida. These are attributes that were honed and developed during his time spent in military schools and aboard nuclear submarines in the United States Navy, throughout his education at the University of Florida and University of Miami and while he practiced law and became an integral part of prominent South Florida law firms.
Stephen wishes to continue this course as he seeks election as Secretary of the Board of Directors for the Broward County Bar Association.
During these difficult and uncertain times, I feel a little silly providing a headshot and bio for an election to a voluntary bar board, even if it is THE voluntary bar board. The BCBA is in great hands regardless of whether I am elected Secretary or not. Its Executive Director, Braulio, has been an amazing leader since coming aboard and has surrounded himself with remarkable staff and engaged Boards that have grown the BCBA to an astonishing 3700 members. We have a Committee for every interest and Committee Chairs that educate and captivate our members. The BCBA is seen as a leader, not only throughout the state but really throughout the country at this point.
I know all of this because I had the privilege of being elected to the Board of Directors in 2015 and serving 4 years. I have been a very active member for over a decade, serving on numerous committees, including the Publicity and Social Committees, as well as continued involvement on the Bench and Bar and Professionalism Committees.
I was the President for the West Broward Bar for the first two years starting in 2011, as well as the originator of the West Broward Bar Inaugural Golf Classic which raised $8,400 for the Law Class of Seminole Middle School. I participated in the BCBA Community Outreach Program and had the great honor of receiving the BCBA President’s Award in 2012.
I currently run the BCBA Bowling League that is now in its 11th year and hopefully starting in the next couple of months and the Chair for the Inaugural Barrister Bolt 5K coming up this summer when we get back on track. This new event aims to benefit the Boards of Coast to Coast Legal Aid and Legal Aid Service of Broward County.
In 2018, I became further involved with Coast to Coast and Legal Aid after spending many years taking on pro bono cases and volunteering for the Advice & Counsel Hotline, by becoming a member of the Board of Directors. I am currently the Vice Chair of both organizations.
A member of the South Broward Bar Association since 2008, I served as President from 2014/2015 and continue to serve on the Board, handling social events, including The Installation Dinner, Holiday Party, Dolphin Tailgates, as well as Meatballs and Martinis.
As a founding member of the Florida Lawyers Network, I was the Inaugural President of the Fort Lauderdale Chapter from 2012 through 2018. I continue to be heavily involved with the organization as it has grown to 12 Chapters throughout South Florida.
So, that all being said, I still feel a bit uneasy bothering anyone during these crazy times, but I would ask that if you have a moment of your valuable time to spare, please vote. If you choose to vote for me, I would be humbled and honored. Stay safe, wash your hands, and let your loved ones know how you feel about them every chance you get.
